Introduction

Application for Consent to Carry Out Works under Section 23 of the Land Drainage Act 1991 (opens in new window

Land drainage approval must be applied for if any of the following conditions apply to any works you wish to carry out:

works that will affect or add flow to any open or piped watercourse.
works to the embankments, ditch bottom or any part of a piped watercourse.
works within 3 metres of any open or piped watercourse.
works to connect new pipes or watercourses to an existing open or piped watercourse.

It is essential that if you intend on carrying out these types of works you must obtain consent before starting the work. The London Borough of Redbridge cannot grant consent for works that are complete or already underway. Any works carried out without consent may require you to return the watercourse to its original state.

Please submit a location plan of the proposed works via email along with this application. This should be at an appropriate scale and must clearly show the general location and layout of the site. It must also identify the ordinary watercourse as well as any other bodies of water in the surrounding area.

Description and purpose of the proposed works

Please submit a plan showing the details of the proposed works via email along with this application. This should be at an appropriate scale and must show the location of any proposed service pipes or cables which may affect the future maintenance of the ordinary watercourse. Details of any planting or landscaping should also be included. For dams and weirs, the plan should illustrate the extent of the water impounded under normal and flood conditions so the possible effect on the land next to the ordinary watercourse can be assessed.

Fees

The current Land Drainage Consent fee is £50 for each structure or feature associated with the application. The London Borough of Redbridge reserves the right to amend this fee at any time pursuant to legislation.
